Should I have a destination wedding or traditional wedding?
January 10th, 2012 | by admin |Laura S asked:
I am trying to start planning my wedding, but I need to first decide where I want to have a destination wedding or a traditional wedding. I have always said I wanted to have a destination wedding with a reception in my home town so everyone could come. But now that I am really planning a wedding I am not sure. My fiance and I are big beach goers and if we did do destination it would be at some exotic beautiful beach somewhere. Which should we choose?

Home town wedding, beach honeymoon. That way you will be free of entertaining guests. Have the fun part alone!

Destination weddings are fine - I did one myself. But don’t kid yourself about the “reception” when you get back. It doesn’t make a good consolation prize for the people who couldn’t afford the trip or who wanted to see you exchange vows. And it isn’t part of the actual wedding - it’s just a celebration party.
So be realistic about that part. When people elope or go to exotic venues for a destination, there’s a lot to be said for it, but they give up some things at the other end.
