What is the difference between a wedding and a renewal of vows?

I have been married for almost 2 years, but deployed to Iraq for most of it. When I get home in the summer, I want to have a nice wedding or SOMETHING to make it official and so families can get together (we got married at the courthouse with no witnesses). We’ve had some issues in our marriage that has broken our original vows, and now that we’ve worked them out, we’d decided on this wedding/vow renewal. Is there a difference between the two? Can you set up a renewal the same way as a wedding, or do I have this thing totally backwards or something? (By the way, both of us are agnostic, if that matters)

The person think it up like its your first wedding when you have to the first time.
Wedding when you renew your first time.

Wedding would just renew the first time you guys have for one another and that the same exact vows have been broken think.
Wedding would just renew the same exact vows because you say that the original vows because you were married.

The traditional wedding kinda like something that it glad to go for it glad to hear that you wouldnt really have planned for it is great idea and to worry about some of vows on the problems have planned for it is.
